Opera Orlando is excited to offer In-School Programs designed to engage students and introduce them to the exciting world of Opera. Through the "Opera School" program, students and teachers have three exciting opportunities to explore:

  • In-School Opera Previews offer students an opportunity to learn about opera through a condensed program of arias and ensembles performed by the company's Studio Artists in the comfort of your own classroom! This program introduces students to one of the season's main stage productions, taking them through the story line, introducing musical highlights and characters, as well as allowing students the chance to engage with the Studio Artists through a Q&A.  Lessons plans are provided for each production which teachers can use to prepare their classes for the presentation.
  • Master Classes with Opera Orlando Teaching Artists are another way to connect students to the wonderful world of classical singing. Opera Orlando provides you with a teaching artist as well as an accompanist who will come to your school and work with a handful of willing singers in a master class setting. This is an invaluable opportunity for aspiring singers and can be a wonderful way to help prepare students for upcoming solo and ensemble or Thespian competitions. Not only to the singing participants receive immediate and impactful feedback, but the observing students will learn so much from their peers as well as the professionals.
  • Invited Dress Rehearsals for Main Stage Productions: Schools who sign up to be a part of Opera Orlando's "Opera School" Program will receive a special invitation to attend one of our season's final dress rehearsals at the beautiful Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Last Friday we had the absolute pleasure of hosting Craig Irvin and Julie Thompkins from Opera Orlando at Avalon Middle School. They presented a fabulous and informative program, and created positive change in my choral program. Over 200 students were able to enjoy the performance, presentation, and workshop. We are so grateful that they were able to enrich our students!”
