The first opera ever written for television in 1951, this classic tale of a precocious, crippled shepherd boy who happens to be visited by the Three Kings on their mission to behold the Christ-child fares even better on the stage. Join the “Amahl Crawl” as Opera Orlando tours this perfect holiday treat for the entire family to the following venues: The Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, St. John Lutheran Church of Winter Park and Orlando, Clermont Performing Arts Center, and Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna.

Watch the original 1951 TV Broadcast of Amahl and the Night Visitors.

The original 1951 historic telecast with Chet Allen as Amahl. The first ever made opera for TV. Aired on NBC Christmas Eve 1951. The composer, Gian Carlo Menotti comes on television before the opera explaining his childhood memories around Christmastime and the program was sponsored by Hallmark Cards.
