FRIDA KAHLO AND THE BRAVEST GIRL IN THE WORLD SYNOPSIS

Opera Orlando’s production of Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World is based on the highly-acclaimed book by author and illustrator Laurence Anhol. The production is family-friendly, and offers children and adults alike, insights into the artists’ life, the importance of bravery & inclusion, as well as the power of friendship.

Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World tells the story of Marianna, a young girl from Mexico City, and the unexpected friendship she forms with the artist Frida Kahlo, whose intriguing art fills Mariann’a home.

Marianna’s family encourages her to visit Kahlo and have her own portrait painted by the artist, just like all of her other family members had done, but Mariana is afraid of the mysterious Frida Kahlo. She had heard rumors and gossip that Frida is a witch who keeps human skeletons in her bedroom! Eventually Marianna finds her courage and goes to have her portrait painted.

Once Marianna meets Frida and is in her studio, all of her fears quickly dissipate, and the two become fast friends. Mariana meets Frida’s animals and she also meets Frida’s husband, the artist Diego Rivera. She learns about the terrible accident that forced Frida herself to discover the depths of her own courage, and that changed Frida’s life forever.

Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World offers lessons in bravery, art and overcoming fear. The production is appropriate for all ages, especially families with children.
