Opera Orlando Youth Company Instructor

2023-24 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as instructor for the Company’s Young Singers ensemble  (8-13 year old Company members) for all class sessions based on schedule outlined below

  • Plan, document, and execute curriculum, instruction, programs, and performances appropriate for the ensemble in collaboration with the Company’s associate director, supervised by the education director

  • Attend and participate in weekly education check-in meetings during the Term of this Agreement

  • Effectively communicate upcoming weekly lesson plans,  needs, and concerns to education director during weekly check-in meetings 

  • Prepare Young Singers musically for all youth company specific outreach events and performance opportunities.

  • Assist Opera Orlando chorus master in preparing the Young Singers for productions

  • Attend and participate in the Company’s auditions, meetings including Opera Orlando all-hands meetings, rehearsals, and performances

  • Supervise Company members during rehearsals and performances including MainStage and On the Town performances 

  • Implement and enforce all Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company handbook

PAY

$750 monthly from September-May

Auditions August 26, 2023

Fall Semester September 9 -December 16, 2023

Spring Semester January 20 - May 18, 2023

Rehearsals typically run from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturdays with additional responsibilities during production periods.

PROVISIONS

1. Travel & Housing: No travel or housing to be provided under this Agreement.

2. Expenses: All other travel arrangements and costs (i.e. baggage fees, taxis, rideshares, gas, and tips), both to/from and within Orlando, Florida, and all meals are the sole responsibility of Artist, and shall be arranged and paid for by Artist. Artist shall have no right to incur on behalf of, or charge any items or expenses to Company unless otherwise agreed to in writing.

3. Additional Appearances: Instructor agrees to attend and/or assist with a maximum of six (6) Company events during the Term (e.g. staff retreats, outreach concerts, Company productions, etc.) with no additional compensation for said attendance. Program and presentation specifics shall be at the mutual agreement of Artist and Company, and shall be reached no later than fifteen (15) days in advance of said event. Such events will be scheduled on a working day, or if scheduled on a day off, an alternate day off within the rehearsal period will be provided. Appearances requested fewer than fifteen (15) days in advance shall be completed at the sole discretion of the Instructor.  

4. General Employment Provisions:

a. Company agrees that Instructor may take other performance/production work for outside companies as long as work does not directly conflict with the responsibilities outlined in this agreement and with approval from the Company.

b. Company may cancel this agreement for any reason with a two-week notice, whereas Instructor will be paid for their services during that two-week period.

c. Instructor must give 30-day notice of any travel that would conflict with agreed upon office hours or period of residence. If 30-day notice is not given, Company reserves the right to pro-rate pay for any missed hours of work

d. Company agrees to release Instructor for any recognized holidays without affecting pay.  

e. Instructor must adhere to all Company policies as set forth and explained by the Company’s Employee Handbook (sent along with contract). Failure to comply with any part of the Employee Handbook will result in appropriate disciplinary action. The party responsible for non-compliance will be subject to repercussions that vary in regards to the severity of the violation. Possible consequences will include reprimand, demotion, suspension or termination for more serious offenses. Legal action may have to be pursued in cases of corruption, theft, embezzlement, or other unlawful behavior.
